A Brief History of the Club
The club was formed by the folks of the two villages Hemingford Abbots and Hemingford Grey in 1899 hence the club title Hemingfords United.
The record of our first ever game was found in the Norris Museum in St Ives, where it says that on 9th December 1899 Hemingfords played and lost to Needingworth 5-1 who had the assistance of several St Ives players.
It is assumed, that they joined the Huntingdonshire league and at some point joined the Peterborough & District league, before returning to the Huntingdonshire league.
When the Huntingdonshire league was taken over by the West Anglian league in 1994, the club decided
to switch to the Cambridgeshire football league.
The first team were put into division 1B where they were runners up to Mildenhall reserves and promoted to Senior B division then in 1998 they were runners up this time, to Fordham, and promoted to Senior A
They spent 3 years in this division before finishing runners up to West Wratting. This enabled the team to play at the highest level in the club's history, the Cambridgeshire Kershaw Premier division.
The reserves started in division 4B and won promotion by winning the division in 1997, where they then spent several years in 3B before gaining successive promotions in 2002/03, 2003/04 and are currently in Division 1B the division the first team started playing in and also playing at the highest level ever.
The A team was formed in 2002 mostly due to the influx of players who wanted to join the club but also to encourage the youth policy of the club bringing through players from the under 17 colts team, this proved to be a positive move for the club as the A team won promotion in their first season from division 5B to 4B. There was even a suggestion of starting a B team due to the success of the club.
Currently there are two colts teams playing at Hemingford, being under 16 and under 12 and detail of the teams can be obtained from Linda Blake 01480 466623.
There is also a veteran's team for players over 35, details can also be obtained from
